How can I install a network card in my 4300 system?

Although the system has an optional network adapter, you may want to install a direct network card to maintain compatibility with other systems, or to support special features of a third-part card. To do this, if the integrated adapter has been active, you would need to remove the any Windows drivers and disable the integrated network circuitry.

In Windows, remove the network drivers:

  • Right click on "My Computer", select "Properties"
  • Click on "Device Manager"
  • Expand the "Network adapters" section
  • Delete the network adapter driver "Davicom 9102 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" If there is no Davicom device or no network adapters section, check for an "Other" section
  • Close all windows, use Start, Shut Down, Restart the computer
  • Press Delete to enter CMOS Setup
  • In CMOS Setup, disable the integrated network
  • Select "PnP/PCI Configuration"
  • Change OnBoard PCI LAN to "Disabled"
  • Press Escape, and select "Save and Exit Setup" from the main menu.

Install your new network card, following the manufacturer's installation instructions. If you have problems with the 4300 system detecting or using the card, there could be a conflict created with the modem. Updated modem drivers are available on the PowerSpec site. These drivers have already been installed on the 4310 and 4311 systems.

To install the optional Network adapter:

  • Shut down the system, install the adapter to the internal connector
  • Power On the system. During startup, press Delete to enter Setup
  • On the PnP/PCI menu, Enable the PCI LAN option
  • Save and restart the system. When Windows comes up, it should detect new hardware and ask for drivers

The System board CD that came with your system should contain the Network drivers for Windows 98. One location for these drivers is \peripherals\lan\win98 on the CD-ROM. We have also seen the network drivers located in a \drivers\LAN folder.on the CD-ROM.

We have also seen the network drivers located in a \drivers\LAN folder. Once the drivers have been installed, you will have to add any specific protocols or services required for your particular needs.
