Applicable for
all PowerSpec models using RAMBUS memory modules (RDRAM). Models include
7830, 7930, 8130, 8210
RDRAM* memory upgrades may require
continuity modules.
*RDRAM - Direct Rambus
DRAM
System will not boot after adding or changing the Rambus
memory in a PowerSpec system.
If you upgrade the memory in a PowerSpec system that uses
Rambus memory (RDRAM), all memory slots must be populated. In four-slot
systems the memory must be installed in matched pairs.
168-pin RIMM modules with Direct Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) should
be installed in Bank 0 first and then Bank 1.
On systems with the 820 chipset (two RIMM slots) you can install
two RDRAM modules, or one RDRAM module and one Continuity module.
The RDRAM memory does not need to be the same size.
On the 850 chipset (four RIMM slots) you must add memory in matched
pairs, although the two banks can have dissimilar sizes. Unused
RIMM slots cannot be left empty, but must be populated with a Continuity
RIMM.
Note: If a Continuity RIMM is not installed in an unused
memory connector, the system will not boot.
